I had thrown some old pie crust on the outhouse roof. I was watching a flock of sparrows eat when they scattered in alarm. A second later a hawk landed on the roof. It had a very pale breast, I could see no marks and it flew off before I could use the phone. Almost certainly a young kestrel, or possibly sparrowhawk, my bird book was not helpful in deciding; but seeing it caught no sparrows makes me guess it was a kestrel, the first I’ve seen here for well over a decade.
