Perhaps more important than helping ma physically cope is helping her finally get to grips with the way the english language uses ‘he’ and ‘she’. Neither Finnish nor Karelian have those words and ma often mixes them up. I think the real problem is the way they work as pronouns (look – ‘he’ definition – up). Ma tells lots of stories about lots of people and in her first languages every person would have a special pronoun after the first mention. In english you use he or she, and if there are lots of them and you just use he or she the story becomes impossible to follow.

Ma was quite surprised when I managed to make her understand this, but she thought about it and was then shocked at just how hard some of her stories were to follow.

On Tuesday I made a sandwich in a rush. I had eaten over half before I thought Hey! I didn’t put blue cheese in this!

12 hours later my ecosystem ran out of me, and for most of the next 36 hours I managed to do only two things, one of which was sleep.

Fortunately ma has now got 4 care visits a day and can move about the house. I still had to get out of my sick bed on Wednesday to explain things to 7 different nurses, carers and assessors; and do the same to 3 similar on the phone. I did just manage each time and went back to sleeping, or worse.

Lots of work of history with a Ma well enough to argue. Watching Tom Petty on BBC 4. Loved Refuge then. Putting the subtitles on made it scarily obvious why I do.

I hate travelling on trains on Sunday, especially over any kind of a distance. The timetable is the worst of the week, and it is the day for engineering. The 10.06 Leeds – Kings Cross was booked for a little under 3 1/2 hours, almost an hour longer than normal, and reversed to change lines at Biggleswade. It then crawled into Finsbury Park station, 3 miles short of Kings Cross, which was lucky as the guard announced there had been a complete single failure at KX. At least they had the sense to get to a station and let those who wanted to leave, leave. That, and the fact there was no Victoria Line service at all, added another extra hour.

Ma finally got sent home from hospital last week. She is ok but now looks and acts like an old lady, rather than an 11 year old girl disguised as an old lady. She cannot walk around the house without walking aids, can hardly use her left hand, and sleeps most of the day.

It is a shock.

I am getting sick of wordpress. If anything follows the rant, it is the second time I have written it out. I can dump crap on Facebook in a single squeeze.

Alright; I am drunk; but what’s the point of a web service you have to be sober for? Like the internet only has straightforward, normal people on?

I cannot even remember what I was ranting about. I do remember the below though, overhead late afternoon.

“I went to hit this lad in the ***teh***e and he moved! I fell arse over tit and got carpet burns right up me arm!”
